Caravaggio: Art and Man

Monday 13th January 2025 at 14:30–15:30

Join The Arts Society Henfield for their talk "Caravaggio: Art and Man" presented by Dr Alison Barker.

Caravaggio, was an Italian painter, active in Rome for most of his artistic life. During the final four years, he moved between Naples, Malta and Sicily until his death in 1610. His paintings have been characterised by art critics as combining a realistic observation of the human state, both physical and emotional, with a dramatic use of lighting, which had a formative influence on Baroque paintings. They will test the assumption that "What begins in the work of Caravaggio is, quite simply, modern painting".
