The incredible wildlife in a Sussex country churchyard

Sunday 26th July 2026 at 15:00–16:00

WILD LIFE TALK

Locally renown for an incredibly diverse environment, Newtimber churchyard is thriving! While our stinking iris is slowly being brought under control, we are gradually creating more open space for other plant species to thrive. Our latest discovery was wild asparagus.

Peter Denyer from Wildstarts will be explore with us the hidden wildlife of Newtimber’s historic churchyard within the local area at St John the Evangelist. His talk will highlight the remarkable variety of species thriving in this unique setting, from insects to birds. With insights into both the wildlife already discovered and what may yet be found, this engaging event offers a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the rich natural heritage of the parish and the value of letting nature flourish.

We have hosted a range of fascinating talks at Newtimber church this year, and included in the admission price is a fabulous cream tea.

Cream teas will be served from 2pm as well as after the talk. Come early and enjoy the peace and tranquility of this beautiful place, at the foot of the South Downs.
