Scoot Jam 2024: A roundup

31st May 2024

Following the success of last year’s Skate Jam, it was now the turn of Henfield’s scooter riders, and on Saturday 11th May eighteen enthusiastic riders took part in the four-hour event, hosted by professional scooter coach Terry Price.

Under the scorching sun, with music pumping out, Terry and his scooting colleague David coached the kids in tricks performance as well as brushing up on any tricks they’d already mastered. They showed off their own skills on the scooter and Terry wowed the kids with his renowned backflip! He even managed to persuade a participant to lie down in front of the ramp to enhance the trick.

Cheered on by parents and friends, the kids took part in some of the competitions. The best trick competition was won by Jack Bishop for completing a “no foot deck grab” and in the main competition, riders were judged on their use of the skate park, tricks performed and general riding skills over two rounds. The scores from both rounds were added together and 1st place went to Roman Drewitt Barlow, 2nd place Fletcher Flynn, and 3rd place Lucas Campbell. Congratulations to them all.

Terry and David were very impressed by the enthusiasm of the riders, as well as their behaviour and manners. Terry said “Not many parish councils put on these types of events, the children get so much out of it, they are really lucky to have it. Great to see the kids being so supportive and encouraging to each other. We certainly look forward to coming again in the future”.

Big Thanks go to Terry and David for making it a really special day, Henfield Youth Club for opening up their pop up café for refreshments, members of Henfield Parish Council’s Children & Young people’s committee who showed their support on the day, and all the parents and friends who showed up to cheer the kids on.
