The Arts Society Henfield AGM and Lecture: "The Artistic Alcotts: the Real Little Women".
The AGM will precede the lecture at 2pm sharp. Our lecturer, Elizabeth Merry, will be taking us through children's literature - only accepted as a distinct genre for about 200 years, recognising childhood as an experience in its own right, not merely as preparation for maturity. During the 19th century output grew enormously, with such authors as Lewis Carroll and Louisa May Alcott on whom Elizabeth Merry will focus.
Elizabeth has over 25 years' experience lecturing on a range of subjects including classical art and architecture, aspects of the visual arts and the links between literature and art.
