Tickets are now on sale for our event with IAN MARCHANT: writer, musician, broadcaster and avuncular chronicler of our times.
Ian will discuss his book ONE FINE DAY : A JOURNEY THROUGH ENGLISH TIME, charting his discovery of the detailed diaries of his ancestor Thom Marchant of Hurstpierpoint - an amateur genealogist’s adventure which packs a real emotional punch as well as delivering a visceral, vivid sense of daily life in rural 1700's Sussex. Thomas wrote about life on his family farm in Sussex, about fishponds, dung, horses, mud, and about the making and drinking of beer, and Ian maps Thom’s daily doings in 1720 onto his own, during 2020's pandemic ...showing how much that England - rainy, muddy, politically turbulent and illness ridden - is similar to our own!
Ian is the author of previous books on music, railways and pubs, has played in numerous bands and presented Radio 4 documentaries of a huge variety of subjects, so expect an entertaining evening and all manner of tall tales! Steyning's own bard Simon Zec will be the interviewer!
