The Art of Uzbekistan: from the heart of the Silk Road

Monday 10th February 2025 at 14:30–15:30

Join The Arts Society Henfield for this month's talk, The Art of Uzbekistan: from the Heart of the Silk Road.

The talk will be presented by Chris Bradley, an expert in the history and culture of the Middle East, Asia and North Africa. Traditional artisans continue to work metal, ceramics, wood and fabrics in the fertile Ferghana Valley, as they have done for thousands of years. Centrally located along the Silk Road, Uzbekistan has produced amazing art under diverse rulers such as Alexander the Great, Ancient Persians and Soviets, Famous UNESCO cities include Bukhara and Khiva but if any place encapsulates this multiculturalism then it is Samarkand, capital of Timur-known as Tamerlane in the West.

Chris Bradley has built up an enviable knowledge and personal photographic library that he uses to enhance his academic travel tours.

Do join us for what promises to be a fascinating afternoon lecture.

Guests welcome: £10 on the door.
