Funny Turns

Thursday 21st March 2024 to Saturday 23rd March 2024

This March sees Henfield Theatre Company presenting another comedy for your enjoyment. Written by David Hampshire, “Funny Turns” is delightful, funny, sad, and exactly what good theatre is all about. It's a glimpse into an old-fashioned way of thinking and believing. It reminds us of that wonderful era long ago when we had no TVs, cell phones, videos, or social media and when entertainers devoted their lives to our amusement each at a cost to themselves. Their life was artificial, insecure and rootless, yet it had an excitement and a charm that kept the actors acting and the comedians telling jokes.

In a theatrical boarding house in the 1930s, struggling comedian Norman Tate (Tim Swinton) passes his time rehearsing his average act with Sally (Zarinna Danaeva), the daughter of his landlady Alice (Jane Haines). When Norman’s ex-wife Nellie Price (Karen Blunden) moves into his lodgings, a chain of events is set in motion which changes Norman’s life forever. A tale of humour, heartbreak and eventual redemption which demonstrates that life is indeed full of Funny Turns.

Guest Director, Vicki Woods says, “This fast-moving amusing comedy is both entertaining and wicked in parts... a humorous play that combines poignancy with comedy. If you like witty one-liners, this is the play for you.”

Performances are from Thursday 21st to Saturday 23rd March at 7.45pm at The Henfield Hall, with a matinée at 2.30pm on the Saturday. Tickets cost £13 per person for floor seating and £15 per person for raised seating. On sale now via our website, and at Stevens Estate Agents in Henfield High Street.
