Mozart in London by Graham Griffiths

Monday 11th November 2024 at 10:00–12:00

The Arts Society Steyning invite you to join them for their November lecture: The Astonishing Master Mozart Comes To London.

This lecture, by Graham Griffiths, tells of the Mozart family’s stay in London (1764-65) when the 8-year-old child prodigy, Wolfgang Amadeus, befriended George III and became the subject of medical research. The talk is illustrated with explanations and performances of Mozart’s witty and precocious miniatures at the piano or electric keyboard. Music by Mozart’s own child-prodigy, Franz Xavier, brings the event to an emotional conclusion.

Graham Griffiths' experience includes work as a lecturer, conductor, pianist and composer. Qualifications include Music Research Fellow (City, University of London). DPhil., Musicology (Christ Church, Oxford, 2008), PGCE (Cambridge), BMusHons (Edinburgh).

He has been a guest on BBC Radio 3’s Composer of the Week and at St Petersburg International Conservatoires Festival. His research featured in the BBC Radio 3/AHRC celebration Five Forgotten Female Composers on International Women’s Day (8 March 2018). His work has been broadcast in several countries.
