Dr Irving Finkel presents this talk on behalf of the Arts Society Henfield. "Belshazzar's Feast" by Rembrandt depicts a story from the Old Testament Book of Daniel. The Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar had looted the Temple in Jerusalem and his son, Belshazzar, using a stolen cup at a feast observes the "Hand of God" appearing to write a condemnatory inscription on the wall.
The painting materials and technique are both exceptional and do not compare to any of his other works.
Do join us to hear more from Irving Finkel about this major painting. Guests welcome: £10 on the door. Tea and coffee from 2.00pm prior to the meeting.
