White Gold - the splendours of Meissen

Monday 11th March 2024 at 14:15–15:45

The Arts Society Henfield "White Gold - the splendours of Meissen" presented by Dr Scott Anderson.

Meissen was the dominant porcelain manufacturer for 50 years. Meissen china or Meissen porcelain was the first European hard-paste porcelain. Its production started in 1710 at the royal factory in Meissen near Dresden financed by Augustus the Strong, King of Poland and Elector of Saxony. Artists and artisans from across Europe were attracted to the factory to create, arguably, the most famous porcelain manufacturer in the world. The crossed swords logo was introduced to protect the product and was one of the first trademarks in existence.

Dr Scott Anderson is a trained archaeologist whose interest shifted to the world of art, antiques and auctioneering. He is also a university lecturer and consultant valuer for the BBC series "Flog It". Do join us, as a guest - £10. We look forward to welcoming you.
