Elaine raises over £800 cycling for HART

29th August 2013

Just one month after a knee operation Elaine May went into serious training for the London to Brighton bike ride and raised £810 for Henfield Area Response Team (HART). Elaine completed the journey from Clapham Common to Brighton seafront (about 62 miles) in around six hours with friends.  Her mother Jo Dhillon raised more than £250 from neighbours and friends at the village church, bowls club and bridge club.

"It was an amazing day," said Elaine, as she handed the cheque to members of HART.

"I have never done anything like this before and actually sold my watch to buy the bike I did the ride on. The training in the rain and freezing weather was the hardest part - but it was worth it to see the crowds welcoming us in Brighton. HART does a vital job in the community and my friend Sandra Parsons is a responder - so she was a prime mover in getting me motivated." HART chairman Dick Nye said: "We are inspired by Elaine's efforts and this money will go towards the continual training and equipping of the HART team."
