Two Henfield cyclists completed a 100-mile ride on Sunday to raise more than £3,000 for CLIC Sargent, the children's cancer charity.
Tracey Prescott said: "We did a lot of training and it was brilliant on the day but we were overwhelmed by the support of other riders, spectators and sponsors in Henfield." Adrian Hillman, who is a director of Rushfields Plant Centre at Poynings, said: "It was a hell of ride and very exhausting but we were encouraged by the tremendous support from others taking part and our sponsors."
Their ride started (at 7.45am) from Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London, past the Tower of London, through Chiswick and then through villages around Dorking and Leatherhead in Surrey before returning via Kingston and Wimbledon to The Mall.
They completed the circuit, which followed a similar route to the Olympics road race last year, at 4.15pm. Around 20,000 cyclists took part, leaving in groups at different intervals.
"We have to thank everyone for their support, and the excellent organisation," said Adrian. "CLIC Sargent is such a worthwhile charity and we are totally committed to its aims."
Gyles Culver, landlord of The White Hart, Henfield, which hosted the celebration on Sunday evening, said: "I am full of admiration for Tracey and Adrian. They have been brilliant in their dedication to this gruelling event. They deserve every plaudit for their efforts and the great reception they received on Sunday evening was totally justified for this great charity."
