The grand opening of the refurbished Budgens store took place this morning (Thursday 13 Feb). New owners David and Lynette Knight have made some considerable improvements to the store and have introduced some exciting new product lines.
The ribbon was cut by David's mum and the first 100 lucky shoppers received a free bottle of wine. Chairman of Henfield Parish Council Ray Osgood welcomed David and Lynette to the village and asked local people to support them in their efforts to provide Henfield with a great new supermarket. West Sussex County Councillor Lionel Barnard met local producers and fully endorsed the new supermarket, along with Horsham District Councillor Sheila Matthews.
David said; "We actually purchased the store in December but have been working hard to ensure we could refurbish the store in January. Some of you may know that we already own our Knights Budgens store in Hassocks. We took this store on a similar journey purchasing it in 2007 and it has since gone on to win numerous awards. We are a small family business and try to run it to those values and we were privileged last year to re-invest over £30,000 back into the Hassocks community. Our aim is do the same in Henfield, we firmly believe in being a community business that has a responsibility to the customers it serves. We hope you like the changes, there are lots more to come and I hope we can be part of your community for years to follow."
Sussex Food Producers The Real Patisserie Company, Court Gardens vineyard in Ditchling and Bangers Galore were offering samples of their products to shoppers. David intends to increase the amount of Sussex suppliers and broaden the stores product range.
Good luck David and Lynette, it's great to have you in Henfield.
