The Club will receive £50,000 of National Lottery funding to replace its current pavilion with a new building having greatly improved facilities. This award will be supplemented by funds that the Club has been prudently setting aside ever since the need for a new pavilion was agreed several years ago.
Key amongst these improvements will be the provision of changing and toilet facilities. The Club is proud of its Youth Programme and flourishing relationship with local St Peter’s Primary School; the new pavilion will be a tremendous boost to the Club’s junior coaching function. We also plan to improve our seating and viewing area to give players and spectators a more comfortable environment in which to relax and watch the tennis.
Sport England’s Chair, Nick Bitel, said: “A year on from the Olympics, this National Lottery investment is helping us deliver a lasting sporting legacy in West Sussex. With investment now on offer from our Inspired Facilities Fund until 2017, we look forward to supporting many more sports clubs in the South East, which play such a vital role in grass-roots sport.”
Club Chairman, Digby Stephenson, said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which means we can upgrade our premises to match the quality of our courts and coaching programme. I am particularly keen to promote the Club throughout the community, and to encourage the young people of the Village to play tennis, and to improve their skills”
Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert said: "I am delighted that Henfield Tennis Club has received this fantastic grant from Sport England. It is so important to provide the right facilities for young people to take part in sport, and this is an investment that will benefit tennis and the local community."
