Henfield Village have won the Community Hero award for 2015!
This national award, from St John Ambulance, was given to representatives of the village in a glittering awards ceremony last night (Wednesday 1 July) at the Everyday Heroes awards at the Lancaster Hotel in London. Members of HART (Henfield Area Response Team), Ray Osgood (Chairman of Henfield Parish Council), Gyles Culver (Landlord of the White Hart in Henfield) and Emma Osman (BN5 magazine) collected the award on behalf of the village from footballer Fabrice Muamba.
Sky Sports presenter Kirsty Gallagher, who hosted the awards night, praised Henfield Village for their support of HART. The village have raised over £100,000 for the lifesavers since they launched in 2004. Henfield has 24 PADs (Public Access Defibrillators) which have been used in 10 cardiac arrest cases. Henfield has more defibrillator cover per head than any other area in the country. HART have responded to 2,400 emergency 999 calls on behalf of the ambulance service.
Fabrice Muamba, who suffered cardiac arrest for a staggering 78 minutes during a televised football match in 2012, presented the award. He has miraculously made a full recovery since his dramatic cardiac arrest, due to the ambulance crew refusing to give up on him and continuing to administer CPR for over an hour. When presenting the award to Henfield Village representatives he praised the work of HART and First Responder units who save lives every day.
