Pedal for Henfield!

19th December 2017

On 16th & 17th March 2018 eight intrepid cyclists will be cycling from Paris to Henfield to raise much needed funds for Henfield Leisure Centre and Henfield Haven, two fantastic local charities. The team is a group of friends and Leisure Centre spin class members; Tracey Prescott, Adrian Hillman, Sammy Bremner, Thomas Kemp, Doug Campbell, Rob and Claire Proud and Bek Seager. Many of them have already undertaken fundraising challenges to raise money for HLC and cancer charities.

Henfield Leisure Centre is a registered charity with running costs of approximately £450,000 a year. The team plan to raise enough money to purchase new spin bikes.

Henfield Haven is the other fantastic local charity chosen to be a beneficiary. The Haven has become a lifeline to many people in the village since it launched two years ago, as a day centre and support for carers and those with dementia, as a drop in for fantastic courses and events, or just as a welcoming community coffee shop.

Doug Campbell, said; “Taking on the Paris to Henfield bike ride is a bit of a personal challenge, I have had four major knee operations since 2013. Our motivation is to fundraise for these two Henfield charities, it’ll be a team effort to get to the finish line.”

Both Tracey and Adrian are committee members at HLC and can see the uphill struggle to keep the place running.  Adrian said; “Sharky’s has been extremely successful but we need to keep fundraising. We are looking for business sponsors for the challenge, all the cyclists are paying their own costs so any extra sponsorship goes straight to the charities.”

During the bike ride weekend, there will be a continuous ‘spinathon’ taking place at Henfield Leisure Centre to help add to the fundraising total, with eight continuous spin classes taking place, back to back. If you’d like to get involved or create a relay spin team of your own, please contact Sammy Bremner at Henfield Leisure Centre.
