Henfield Jubilee Fun
The Henfield BP Guild certainly created an evening to remember on the Rothery Field on Thursday 2 June with the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon. It felt like the whole village turned out to witness this historic occasion and whilst they waited for the official start time, they enjoyed the BBQ and Bar laid on by the wonderful BP Guild chaps. At 9.45 prompt chairman of the Parish Council Malcolm Eastwood lit the Henfield Beacon and a little piece of history was witnessed by the village.
The Brighton Beach Boys concert in the Village Hall was a complete sell-out and so an audience of 200 enjoyed a fabulous evening’s entertainment, dancing along to 70 years of platinum hits. John Willis who organised the evening said: “The band were magnificent. The audience were certainly ready to celebrate the Jubilee, and have three hours to forget their problems close at hand and in Europe.” Proceeds from the evening (around £1,000) will be shared by the Parish Council between the Henfield Haven and the Youth Club.
Our wonderful High Street pulled out all the stops with their fantastic window decorations, jubilee bunting, face painting, crafts, picnics and parties. The atmosphere was really buzzing with residents enjoying everything that was on offer.
Despite a damp start to the day, residents came together on the Henfield Common to share in the fun of the giant family jubilee picnic. With food stalls, fancy dress parades, traditional sports and Patcham Silver Band providing the musical entertainment great fun was had by everyone and many happy jubilee memories were created.
Lots of local communities organised their own Jubilee street picnics around the village, sharing in the wider national celebrations. We have been blessed with several Jubilee celebrations over the lifetime of Her Majesty’s reign and many residents had fun reminiscing about bygone celebrations as well as enjoying the Platinum celebrations
