As the Henfield Club celebrates 102 years, sadly it is at crisis point. Increased fuel bills and overheads, as well as lower member visitor numbers, has severely affected our income over the last few years and we now need the community’s support to keep the club open.
Please support us to save the historic Henfield Club from imminent closure.
You can help us by:
Joining the Club. For just £20 a year you’ll enjoy the cheapest beer in Henfield, as well as great facilities and a friendly club environment!

The Henfield Club has been a big part of Henfield since its creation in 1920. Originally known as ‘Comrades of The Great War Club’, it was set up for ex-Servicemen who had fought in the first World War. We are now a Social Club in the historic former Scout HQ building on the corner of Cagefoot Lane and the High Street, quite literally in the heart of the village. Many of you may know us as the centre point of the Annual Henfield Remembrance Parade, as the War Memorial stands proudly outside. This is such an important event both for us and the Village and we are proud to be a huge part of it. But did you know that we offer many other opportunities to socialise and enjoy the company of your fellow villagers?
Our friendly and welcoming bar offers a great selection of drinks at competitive Club prices, including two real ales, from a great local brewery. You can always find someone to chat to, whether it is one of our friendly bar staff or other members. If you come along on a Monday evening, we run ‘Fun Darts’ where you can join in, free of charge, no matter what your skill level. On a Wednesday between 6-8, if you join us for a drink, you will be in with a chance of winning the weekly Members Draw, which can be anything between £20-£500! All members are automatically entered, but must be in the Club when the draw is made, so the £10 a week can quickly roll over to quite a substantial sum! We also have a juke box, which has resulted in many fun evenings discussing music choices over a drink or two!
We have a large snooker room, housing two full size tables, and are part of a local league. We are proud of our heritage and still have some of our scoring boards and winners league tables dating back to the 1930’s! One of our Snooker tables is an original from when the Club opened, and the other is a mere 90 years old! As well as Darts & Snooker, we also run Cribbage and Shuffleboard competitions periodically, and have been known to bring out the 'Shove Ha’Penny' board for special occasions!
Upstairs, the Don Scutt function room, can be hired out for £10ph during Club opening hours, perfect for small parties, meetings, and even short term exhibitions. We have a selection of traditional games such Table Football, that can be used free of charge, for parties etc. Lots of local groups currently use the room for meetings, but we are always happy to welcome more.
We run various events during the year; our St. Patrick’s Day event this year included drinks promotions & free home made Irish Stew & Soda Bread which proved rather popular! Our Easter & Christmas Draws are legendary, with a myriad of prizes including traditional meat joints, alcohol, and lots of other goodies.
Our plans for our 100 year centenary celebrations on July 15th 2020 were unfortunately scuppered by Covid, however this gives us the opportunity for some fun this Summer! On the weekend of August 13th/14th we will be running lots of games competitions, with cash prizes and trophies for Darts, Snooker, Cribbage & Shuffleboard. Plus the nearest score to 102 on Darts and Shuffleboard will win an extra mystery prize! Come along and join in, or try out a new game, you never know, you may be a winner!
We are a Private Members Club, currently offering your first years membership for just £25 and each subsequent year for £15. But you can visit us up to 3 times to get to know us before you sign up, any current member can sign you in as a guest, so please do come and see us. All the money raised by the Club, goes straight back into it, as the Committees that run the Club & organise events are completely staffed by members who are unpaid volunteers.
We have an amazing history of 102 years in Henfield but unfortunately, like many other small businesses, we have struggled in recent years. Due to Covid, and the recent huge increase in energy prices, unless we are able to recruit new members soon, who use the club regularly, there is a real risk that we many have to close, so please do come in and support us if you can.
