Edna reaches 100!

23rd August 2023

Congratulations to Edna Sirett, Red Oaks resident, who celebrated her 100th birthday on 21st August!

Edna celebrated with a tea party, special balloons and cake with family and friends from far and wide. She was especially pleased to receive cards from lots of local residents who had heard about her 'big' birthday, many of them school children from St Peter's who had decorated their own homemade cards. Her favourite card was from King Charles and Queen Camilla, she is keeping it in a very safe place!

Edna was born in London on 21 August 1923 and was evacuated to Oxford at the age of 16. During the war she worked on government secret naval radar projects with the Women's Royal Naval Service (Wrens) and went on to live in Buckinghamshire, before being married in 1954. She worked as an accountancy secretary until retirement, moving to Henfield in 1983.

It was a very special honour to meet Edna, who is still very active and full of interesting stories. We wish her well on this landmark birthday.
