Remembrance 2023

All residents are invited to participate in the following events:

Poppy Cross event, Friday 10 November 2023 at 11am at St Peter’s Church and later at the cemetery.

A Poppy Cross is laid on each grave of those servicemen buried in the cemetery. Prayers are said at the Plaque on the Memorial Wall to remember those buried elsewhere. 

Year 6 pupils from St Peter’s School will read out a short eulogy for each of those buried in the cemetery and afterwards place the Poppy Cross on each of the graves of the fallen soldiers. 

The final poppy cross will be laid at the Memorial Wall, along with the reading out of the names the fallen who are buried elsewhere and prayers will be said to end the proceedings.

Armistice Day, Saturday 11 November 2023

Gather at the War Memorial from about 10.50am, traffic will be halted immediately before 11am and the Last Post will sound followed by the two minutes silence. The Reveille will sound to signify the event has finished and traffic will move again. 

A Wreath will be laid on behalf of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. 

Remembrance Day Parade and Service, Sunday 12 November 2023 

Muster is by the Cagefoot Lane War Memorial at 9.10am with the Parade moving off at 9.20am headed by the Brighton & Hove City Brass Band. 

The Service will be held at St Peter’s Church starting at 9.45am. At 10.30am after the Church Service the Parade will reform and march back to Cagefoot Lane War Memorial for a short Service which will include the wreath laying by a number of local organisations, the remainder of the Service and two-minute silence at 11am. 

Orders of Service will be provided at the Church and at the War Memorial.
